Development of Fast, Durable and Energy Efficient Mass Housing Scheme

WP 4: Mechanization in the Housing Construction Sector

Task 4.1: Mechanization in construction process of Pre-fabricated building components for mass housing

Task Leader(s): Ravindra Singh Bisht

Objective:

  • Mechanization in construction process such as lifting, positioning, placing and alignment of pre-fabricated building components for mass housing

Description of Task:

In construction process, handling of building components and materials involves considerable time and labor intensive. With the increasing labor cost, time consciousness for completing mass housing projects, it is necessary to use mechanized system to aid in handling operations such as lifting, positioning, placing and alignment of pre-fabricated building components during construction process. Worldover gantry cranes, trolley hoists are utilized having relatively huge in size and weight.

The proposed research is aimed at developing mechanized system for light duty material handling used in construction process such as lifting, positioning, placing and alignment of pre-fabricated building components for mass housing development. The developed system will be cost effective and portable for easy to assemble and dissemble features that is required in site specific use for ease in shifting from one floor/site to another.

Deliverables:

  • Prefabricated value added building components like wall panels, light weight structural/non-structural elements for mass housing project using Agro /  industrial /  C&D waste & M-sand

Task Leader(s): Dr. A. K. Minocha

Objective:

  • Development of prefabricated building components, value added building products using recycled agricultural/ industrial/ solid waste construction and demolition (C&D) wastes/bagasse ash and evaluate their performance
